Oakland University leadership responds to SEVP temporary exemptions for F-1 students
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) has implemented a temporary exemption that prohibits nonimmigrant F-1 students from remaining in the United States if enrolled entirely in online classes.
“We want students to be aware that we are reviewing the guidance and determining the best way to implement it within our university community to best support our international students,” said Dawn Aubry, vice president for enrollment management.
The new SEVP guidance was issued July 6, 2020, and affects nonimmigrant F-1 students enrolled in the fall 2020 semester. This modification would apply to Oakland University’s several hundred new and returning F-1 students in various levels of study.
